What is the first thing that pops up on your mind when you think of the 1920's? Great Gatsby it is.

The Great Gatsby is the greatest book that perfectly illuminates the North American life of the jazz age, and who knows, that society's near future.

Fitzgerald presented so clearly the "restless" American society with all the corruption and crimes, hidden in the determination to change the life, with no context knowledge about what might happen very soon: a recession and decline of North America.

Through the novel, Fitzgerald puts across the idea that the American dream has been corrupted by the desire for materialism. We see that Gatsby had a pure dream, but became corrupt in his quest towards that dream.

The opposition pledges that the reader may find Gatsby corrupted. However, according to them, the important is to keep in their minds that Gatsby is a product of the American Dream: a dream that implemented the idea of reinventing the past, re-establishing the identity and striving to the better life. His determination to win Daisy can be viewed as heroic as he puts all his efforts to become the part of the elite society.

Though, Gatsby failed

Some will find Gatsby as a special character because he is neither mean nor naïve. His impulse makes him either good or bad, and this ends up destroying his life. He makes his money off illegal influences, but at the same time, Gatsby is a pure heart for the love of Daisy. Still, he shows corruption by trying to take her from Tom. Gatsby is a man of innocence but yet is corrupted by wealth and materialism.

If Gatsby were guilty of anything, it was of being a tad obsessive. Some people just call that love.

Nick refers to Jordan, Tom, and Daisy as careless. According to him, their actions are careless and they are careless people. This is due to the ease of their life. These people live the decadent life of the roaring twenties that many of the writers of this era were criticizing. The mindless, indulgent, irresponsible life style where consequence is just an afterthought.

This book is a primary example of American culture. They wish to succeed in everything they do. If they get caught up in a life with little substance, it becomes plain, like the white dresses Daisy use to wear.

This masterpiece drives home the reality that life is not something that can be bought, but made through lasting relationships and the love of extraordinary human beings.

The Great Gatsby mirrors the North American culture in such a way that not reading it would be misunderstanding the very themes that characterize the American spirit.

Qual é a primeira coisa que vem à sua cabeça quando você pensa nos anos vinte? A resposta é O grande Gatsby.

O Grande Gatsby é o melhor livro para exaltar perfeitamente a vida dos norte-americanos na era do Jazz, e quem sabe, no futuro próximo dessa sociedade.

Fitzgerald nos mostra tão claramente a vida inconseqüente da sociedade americana, com todos os crimes e corrupções escondidos na determinação de mudar de vida, sem nenhum conhecimento de contexto sobre o que aconteceria muito em breve: uma recessão e o declínio da América do Norte.

Através da novela, Fitzgerald nos coloca a idéia de que o sonho americano tem se corrompido pelo desejo do materialismo. Nós podemos ver que Gatsby tinha um sonho puro, mas se tornou corrupto em sua busca pelo mesmo.

A oposição argumenta que o leitor pode realmente pensar que Gatsby é corrupto. No entanto, de acordo com eles, o importante é ter em mente que Gatsby é o produto do sonho americano: um sonho que implementou a idéia da reinvenção do passado, restabelecimento da identidade e a busca por uma vida melhor. A sua determinação de ganhar a Daisy pode ser considerada tão heróica quanto seus esforços para fazer parte da elite.

Apesar de ter falhado, alguns podem achar que Gatsby é um personagem especial porque ele não é nem maldoso nem inocente. Os seus impulsos fazem dele ora bom, ora mal e isso acaba por destruir sua vida. Ele tira seu dinheiro de influências ilegais, mas ao mesmo tempo, Gatsby tem seu coração ocupado pelo amor por Daisy. Mas ainda sim, ele deixa transparecer a corrupção quando tenta roubá-la de Tom. Gatsby é um homem inocente, ao mesmo tempo em que é corrompido pela riqueza e o materialismo.

Se Gatsby é culpado de algo, é por ter sido um garoto obsessivo. Algumas pessoas chamam isso de amor.

Nick se refere a Jordan, Tom e Daisy como seres humanos que não se importam. De acordo com ele, suas ações são feitas sem se importar com as pessoas. Isto é porque eles sempre tiveram uma vida fácil. Essas pessoas vivem a vida decadente dos barulhentos anos vinte que muitos dos escritores daquela época estavam criticando. O indulgente, despreocupado, irresponsável estilo de vida onde a conseqüência é pensada apenas depois.

Esse livro é um exemplo clássico da cultura americana. Eles desejam ter sucesso em tudo que fazem. Se eles se encontrarem em uma vida com pouca substância, ela se torna simples, como os vestidos brancos que Daisy vestia.

Essa obra traz à tona a realidade de que a vida não é algo que pode ser comprado, mas construído com relacionamentos duradouros e o amor de seres humanos extraordinários.

O grande Gatsby espelha a cultura norte-americana de tal forma que não ler o livro pode gerar um mal entendido sobre os temas específicos que caracterizam o espírito americano.
